Axe throwing is an inherently dangerous activity that involves the use of sharp weapons. Participation carries significant risks including but not limited to serious injury or death. By participating in AxeVentures activities, you acknowledge these risks and agree to follow all safety guidelines.

1. Assumption of Risk

By participating in axe throwing at any AxeVentures location, you voluntarily assume all risks associated with this activity, including but not limited to:

1.1 Physical Injuries

  • Cuts and lacerations from sharp axe blades
  • Puncture wounds from direct contact with axes
  • Bruising and contusions from axe handles or ricochets
  • Muscle strains and sprains from throwing motions
  • Back, shoulder, and arm injuries from improper technique
  • Eye injuries from flying debris or ricocheting axes
  • Head injuries from flying or falling axes
  • Foot and leg injuries from dropped or bouncing axes

1.2 Risks from Facility and Equipment

  • Defective or malfunctioning equipment
  • Slippery or uneven surfaces
  • Inadequate lighting
  • Wood splinters from targets
  • Ricocheting axes from targets or walls

1.3 Risks from Other Participants

  • Errant throws from other participants
  • Collisions with other participants
  • Injuries caused by negligent or reckless behavior
  • Equipment dropped or thrown by others

2. Participant Requirements

2.1 Age and Physical Requirements

To participate, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be in good physical and mental health
  • Have adequate vision and hand-eye coordination
  • Be able to safely lift and throw axes weighing 1.5-3 pounds
  • Be able to stand and move for extended periods

2.2 Medical Conditions

You should NOT participate if you have:

  • Heart conditions or cardiovascular disease
  • Recent surgeries or injuries (especially to arms, shoulders, or back)
  • Seizure disorders
  • Pregnancy
  • Limited mobility or coordination issues
  • Visual impairments that affect depth perception
  • Any condition that could be aggravated by physical activity

Consult your physician before participating if you have any medical concerns.

2.3 Prohibited Substances

You MUST NOT participate if you are:

  • Under the influence of alcohol
  • Under the influence of drugs (prescription or recreational)
  • Taking medication that impairs judgment, coordination, or reflexes
  • Fatigued or otherwise impaired

Zero tolerance policy: Anyone appearing intoxicated or impaired will be denied service without refund.

3. Mandatory Safety Rules

3.1 Before Throwing

  • Attend the safety briefing: All participants MUST attend and acknowledge understanding
  • Wear proper footwear: Closed-toe shoes are mandatory (no sandals, flip-flops, or heels)
  • Secure loose items: Remove or secure jewelry, scarves, and loose clothing
  • Tie back long hair: Long hair must be tied back
  • Inspect axes: Check axes for damage before use and report any issues

3.2 While Throwing

  • Stay behind the fault line at all times when throwing
  • One person throws at a time in each lane
  • Never cross into throwing lanes while axes are being thrown
  • Throw only at your designated target
  • Use proper throwing technique as demonstrated by staff
  • Never throw overhand or use excessive force
  • Maintain awareness of surroundings at all times

3.3 Retrieving Axes

  • Wait for "all clear" signal from staff or lane monitor
  • Ensure no one is throwing in adjacent lanes
  • Walk, never run, to retrieve axes
  • Retrieve axes carefully by the handle only
  • Carry axes blade-down when walking
  • Never throw axes back to the throwing line

3.4 Handling Axes

  • Handle axes only by the designated handle
  • Never touch the blade of the axe
  • Never swing axes outside of throwing motion
  • Do not modify or tamper with axes
  • Report damaged equipment immediately
  • Never juggle or play with axes

4. Prohibited Behaviors

The following behaviors are strictly prohibited and will result in immediate removal without refund:

  • Throwing while intoxicated or impaired
  • Horseplay or roughhousing
  • Running in the facility
  • Throwing at anything other than designated targets
  • Throwing when anyone is in the throwing lane
  • Attempting trick shots or stunts
  • Dual-wielding or throwing multiple axes at once
  • Allowing children near throwing lanes
  • Photography in active throwing lanes
  • Ignoring staff instructions
  • Using personal axes or equipment without authorization

5. Staff Supervision and Authority

5.1 Trained Staff

All AxeVentures locations employ trained axe throwing coaches who:

  • Conduct mandatory safety briefings
  • Demonstrate proper throwing techniques
  • Monitor participants for safety compliance
  • Enforce all safety rules
  • Respond to injuries and emergencies

5.2 Staff Authority

Staff members have the authority to:

  • Stop throwing at any time for safety reasons
  • Correct unsafe behavior
  • Remove participants who violate safety rules
  • Refuse service to anyone deemed unsafe
  • Modify rules as needed for safety

All staff instructions must be followed immediately. Failure to comply will result in removal from the premises.

6. Emergency Procedures

6.1 In Case of Injury

  • Immediately notify staff of any injury
  • Stop all throwing activity in the affected area
  • Do not move seriously injured persons
  • First aid supplies are available at all locations
  • Staff will call emergency services if needed

6.2 Emergency Exits

Familiarize yourself with emergency exit locations upon arrival. In case of emergency:

  • Follow staff instructions
  • Proceed to nearest exit calmly
  • Do not take time to retrieve personal belongings
  • Assemble at designated meeting point outside

7. Release of Liability

By participating in AxeVentures activities, you:

  • Acknowledge that you have read and understood this Safety Disclaimer
  • Understand the inherent risks of axe throwing
  • Voluntarily assume all risks of participation
  • Release AxeVentures from all liability for injuries or damages
  • Waive your right to sue for injuries arising from participation
  • Agree to indemnify AxeVentures against any claims

This release applies to injuries caused by:

  • Your own actions or negligence
  • Actions of other participants
  • Equipment defects or malfunctions
  • Facility conditions
  • Acts or omissions of AxeVentures staff

8. Insurance and Medical Coverage

AxeVentures maintains general liability insurance as required by law. However:

  • Participants are responsible for their own health and accident insurance
  • AxeVentures does not provide medical insurance for participants
  • Medical expenses resulting from injuries are the responsibility of the participant
  • We strongly recommend having adequate health insurance before participating
